As a result of taking traffic school, the violation is not added to the point count used for determining negligent operator status and license suspension or revocation. However, as is required by federal law, the California DMV will still disclose the conviction to insurers and for any other purposes required by Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
State Traffic School classes last 4 hours and are conducted at various times and locations throughout the Commonwealth. It can take up to six weeks (possibly longer for rural areas) for the driver to be scheduled for a class. If the driver does not complete the class on their scheduled date their license will be suspended. The cost is $15 and the driver must enroll within 30 days of their referral/conviction date in order to avoid suspension of their driving privileges. You will have to pay an administrative fee to the court, but not the full penalty of the ticket. Send back notice of your intent to attend traffic school along with the required fee, which will be included with the courtesy notice. The court will reply back with acknowledgement and acceptance of your intention to attend traffic school and provide a deadline for completion. Traffic school can reduce the financial penalty of a ticket, and remove from your record, as explained below.
Fortunately, the state of California makes the process fairly straightforward. You simply progress through the course and complete a quiz after each section. For most online traffic schools, there will be a total of 6 sections including 6 quizzes and a final exam at the end of the exam covering all of the course material. While the quizzes and tests are not all that difficult, it is a good idea to do a few simple things throughout the course to help increase your chances of passing.

Our online 4-hour BDI course is broken up into 7 easy modules. Each module has a required minimum time which allows you to take as much time as you need for each section beyond the minimum time requirement. Once you finish the modules, you can take the final exam up to 3 times until you pass with a grade of 80% or higher. Once you pass your final exam, we will begin processing your certificate of completion. Streaming and DVD courses both have 7 modules with end of module quizzes. Students need an 80% to pass each quiz and have 3 attempts to pass. If you fail 4 times you will have to re-register, but at no additional charge. Also, unlike the regular online course, streaming has no final exam.
